Convert and extend a Gigabit RJ45 Ethernet connection over single or multimode LC fiber
This compact Gigabit Fiber to Ethernet Media Converter enables Cat6 or similar cabling to be upgraded to an EMI-free fiber connection. The TAA-compliant adapter is designed with a convenient built-in USB cable for power, making it a perfect choice when external power options are unavailable.
Simplified Installation
The unmanaged fiber media converter features a plug-and-play design that does not require additional software or settings to be changed. The metal housing features an IP20 rating and is an all-in-one construction with integrated LC fiber and RJ45 ports. The RJ45 side features a metal tab to ensure a reliable and secure fit and prevent accidental disconnections.
Network Features
The LC slot is compatible with Single-Mode (10km) and Multimode (800m) fiber cables up to 1Gbps. A spring-loaded tab protects the port when not in use. The converter supports LFPT (Link Fault Pass-Through), allowing IT administrators to monitor and assess network connectivity at a glance based on the LED behavior.
Compatibility
This LAN-to-fiber converter is ideal for upgrading computers, switches, routers, or other equipment from copper to fiber. It suits various applications, including field deployments, industrial automation, telecommunications, broadcasting, data centers, and remote networking. Experience reliable connectivity with EMI immunity over long distances with this compact (3.20.80.7in/82.39x20x17.5mm) and power-efficient (2.5W max) dongle.

The StarTech.com Advantage
| Network | |
| Maximum data transfer rate The maximum speed with which data can be transmitted from one device to another. | 1000 Mbit/s |
| Converter input interface A convertor changes one form of signal into another e.g. A/D Converter changes a signal from analog to digital. A convertor input interface is the place where a convertor connects to the product in order to input the converted signal. | 1000Base-T |
| Converter output interface | 1000Base-LX |
| Networking standards The way in which the network is working, e.g. IEEE 802.11a, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g. | IEEE 802.3ab, IEEE 802.3z |
| Ethernet interface type | Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet |
| Ethernet LAN data rates The different speed levels of the Ethernet LAN connection. | 10,100,1000 Mbit/s |
| Auto MDI/MDI-X A Medium Dependent Interface (MDI) describes the interface (both physical and electrical) in a computer network from a physical layer implementation to the physical medium used to carry the transmission. Ethernet over twisted pair also defines a medium dependent interface crossover (MDIX) interface. Auto-MDIX ports on newer network interfaces detect if the connection would require a crossover, and automatically chooses the MDI or MDIX configuration to properly match the other end of the link. |

| Auto-negotiation |
|
| Duplex system A duplex communication system is a point-to-point system composed of two connected parties or devices that can communicate with one another in both directions, simultaneously. | Full |
| Chipset Set of electronic components in an integrated circuit that manages the data flow between the processor, memory and peripherals. It is usually found in the motherboard of a computer. Chipsets are usually designed to work with a specific family of microprocessors. Because it controls communications between the processor and external devices, the chipset plays a crucial role in determining system performance. | Marvell - 88E1512 |
| Performance | |
| Maximum transfer distance The greatest distance over which the data/signal can be transferred. | 1000 m |
| Wavelength The distance over which a wave repeats itself. The wavelength determines the characteristics of the wave e.g. red light has a different wavelength to blue light. | 1310 nm |
| Fiber mode structure | Multi-mode, Single-mode |
| Features | |
| Internal The product is built in. |
|
| LED indicators | Activity, Link, Power |
| Product colour The colour e.g. red, blue, green, black, white. | Black, Silver |
| Housing material What the casing of the product is made of. | Metal, Plastic |
| International Protection (IP) code The IP code classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against the intrusion (including body parts such as hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures. It is published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The digits (characteristic numerals) indicate conformity with the conditions summarized in the tables below. Where there is no protection rating with regard to one of the criteria, the digit is replaced with the letter X. an electrical socket rated IP22 is protected against insertion of fingers and will not be damaged or become unsafe during a specified test in which it is exposed to vertically or nearly vertically dripping water. Another example is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, one of the first cellular phones to be IP-rated; it is rated at IP58 and marketed as "dust resistant" and can be "immersed in 1.5 meter of freshwater for up to 30 minutes". | IP20 |
| Ports & interfaces | |
| Connectivity technology The technology that enables connectivity of the device, e.g. wired or wireless. | Wired |
| Ethernet LAN (RJ-45) ports Number of Ethernet LAN (RJ-45) ports (connecting interfaces) in the device. Ethernet LAN (RJ-45) ports allow a computer to connect to the ethernet. | 1 |
| Fiber ports quantity The number of sockets (ports) for fibers (cables). | 1 |
| Fiber optic connector This terminates the end of an optical fiber, and enables quicker connection and disconnection than splicing. The connectors mechanically couple and align the cores of fibers so light can pass. Better connectors lose very little light due to reflection or misalignment of the fibers. In all there have been about 100 types of optic fiber connectors produced. | LC |
| Power | |
| Power consumption (max) The maximum amount of power used by the device. | 2.5 W |
| Power over Ethernet (PoE) The device supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), which is one of several standardized or ad-hoc systems which pass electrical power along with data on Ethernet cabling. This allows a single cable to provide both data connection and electrical power to devices such as wireless access points or IP cameras. |
