NBN Co is rolling out major “Accelerate Great” upgrades from September 14, 2025, boosting FTTP and HFC plans while offering free fibre upgrades for many FTTN/FTTC users and investing billions to expand fibre nationwide.

For Residential Users

Residential customers will see the biggest benefits from the nbn upgrade free of charge. 

Here's the breakdown:

  • 100/20 Mbps to 500/50 Mbps

  • 250/25 Mbps to 750/50 Mbps

  • 1000/50 Mbps to 1000/100 Mbps

  • New 2000 Mbps (2 Gbps)* tier introduced

These upgrades will make streaming in 4K/8K, online gaming and large file uploads much smoother especially for busy households with multiple devices.

For Business and Enterprise Users 

Small and medium businesses (SMBs) are a major focus of this speed upgrade.

New business nbn speed tiers include:

  • 2000/500 Mbps* for SMBs

  • 5000/5000 Mbps and 10000/10000 Mbps* for enterprise users

These plans offer faster uploads, lower latency and stronger service guarantees, perfect for businesses that depend on cloud tools, remote collaboration, and uninterrupted connectivity.

Should I Upgrade My Routers?

Not all routers can handle gigabit or multi-gigabit speeds. If your router is older (Wi-Fi 5 or below), it may bottleneck your connection. Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 router is the safest choice to accomodate this upgrade:

  • Wi-Fi 6 routers are a safe, cost-effective choice for most NBN 100–1000 plans, offering faster, more reliable connections for multiple devices.

  • Wi-Fi 6E routers add access to the new 6 GHz band, which reduces congestion in busy homes.

  • Wi-Fi 7 routers are the best pick if you’re considering NBN 2000 / Hyperfast or want to future-proof for 2–5+ Gbps speeds, with features like Multi-Link Operation for lower latency and faster throughput.
